About Me

Hey there! I’m glad you’ve stopped by. I’m not that great at biographies, but I’ll try my best…

My name is Ashton, I’m a 30-year-old New Jersey gal trying to navigate the Lowcountry down in South Carolina. I’m an art school graduate with a BFA in photography and I used to own my own photography business called Pop!mages. Music is a big part of my life and nothing makes me happier than going to shows to catch my favorite bands play live. I also love being outdoors and going on adventures. More recently, I’ve discovered a passion to document life.

I’m very interested in learning how to live my life whilst dealing with two autoimmune diseases. In November of 2005, I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura. ITP, which is so much easier to pronounce than it’s clinical term, occurs when your body creates antibodies that attack your blood’s platelets. As a result, I went through 6 months of experimental treatment before I had my spleen removed in May of 2006. It was the very last option for treatment and luckily it put me in remission. In September of 2013, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, which is when your body creates antibodies that attack your thyroid causing it not to function properly.

I don’t want to be defined by my ailments, but sometimes I feel like I am and I’ve learned that that’s okay. I made a huge mistake when I started this project in 2013, and I’m ready to work on making things right. In trying to make myself feel better, I didn’t allow myself to feel anything. It was detrimental to my mental health and overall well-being. Now I’m working on being kinder to myself because bad days happen. Without them, we wouldn’t know when we are having good days.

I’m an open book, so if there’s anything you would like to know about me, feel free to ask! You can head over to my contact page and shoot me a message.
